Hey CTrent, i enjoy following your site- but I also do not understand twitter, so I have to go old school and post (Even Though I am 25 years old). Anyway----....Why is it so hard for Dusty to 1- not announce his OD Starter before anyone has thrown....and 2- Eliminate Mike Lincoln all together and just let Travis Wood or Chapman contend for the 5th spot? It is obvious Lincoln has nothing, and Maloney is a 5.5 ERA guy at best in the Majors. Please advise.
1. you want your rotation set as early as possible so you can set them up for the start of the season and get them on the right day's rest.
harang's the best guy to start that game, why f around and like when people ask you a question?
2. who is to say wood and chapman aren't contending? i think he's watching them pitch too.
it's march 10
My biggest pet peeve right now is the fact that Chapman threw a ball 100 and now everyone thinks he should be in the rotation. I think this guy is going to be a monumental talent, and will be in the rotation, but c'mon, he's thrown a few innings in Spring Training, not enough to annoint him the 2nd coming of Cy Young.
That being said, I'm interested in getting CTrent's opinion on where Chapman stands compared to a guy like Cueto 2 years ago. Is he more mature, is his stuff better? Is he the real deal that could take the ball the 5th game of the regular season? Or is this all, Chapmania as I've been calling it to everyone who is ready for him to be the Ace of staff.
he's pretty similar to cueto two years ago. not a bad comparison. except he's left-handed, throws 100 and has no real pro track record to draw upon.
i think he's the leader for the rotation, but there will be rocky days ahead and i'm sure some people will want to jump off a bridge.
i've said this many times, in spring training, just about any reaction is an overreaction
Yeah, and my feeling is if stuff wise he is comparable to Cueto and mentally he is stronger or similar then make him the 5th starter because Lehr, Wood, Lincoln, Owings, Maloney don't have near the upside he does.
If you want a left handed arm in the rotation, I'll take my chances with a 100MPH fastball and nasty 2nd and 3rd pitch over Maloney. Guys with that kind of stuff don't have to be on to pitch out of messes. Maloney has to be on at all times or he'll have a mess. That's my opinion anyway. I just think they can't run the guy up there if he's not mentally prepared to take his lumps though.
as for any reaction being an over reaction, I think people reacting to Harang not having a great start yesterday is a perfect example. Everyone knows he works on command and location only and doesn't care about the result in spring training. That's what it's for, to get everything honed in for the real season.
We've only seen Owings pitch once, for an inning. What gives?
owings pitched tomorrow for 2 innings.
they're just getting around to the second time in the rotation of pitchers. settle down. really, i think you're becoming an internet baseball fan... or worse, have you gotten a fantasy team?
