High-5, Low-5

Lots of odds and ends in here, for those of you looking for XU-UC rehash/analysis, show patience my friends. So much to say I have a full blog breakdown coming.

High-5

1. UC football. The Bearcats continued to be well-represented in postseason All-Star games when Alex Daniels and Aaron Webster took place in Texas vs. USA game.

I wouldn't expect these two guys to get drafted, but have probably done enough to deserve a free agent look in camp somewhere.

Bearcats Sports Page has a great look at their week.

Bearcats Sports Page also has a great look at John Goebel in a Speedo. In a word: Awkward.

2. Dayton's roller coaster. It is amazing how one team can go from the darling of the NCAA tournament committee to outside-looking-in with one bad game.

That is what the St. Louis loss did to Dayton. (Though, I agree with Brian Gregory, as I pointed out here last week, St. Louis has quietly become a very good team that very possibly could make the tourney themselves at 7-3 in conference).

What appeared to be a two-game stretch of dominant wins against Xavier and Charlotte that cemented their spot has returned back to life on the bubble. Though, Xavier's win didn't just help the Muskies, it helped the rest of the A-10 folks on the bubble by giving even more validity to the conference.

3. Kentucky. Have to give credit where it is due for a nice win against Tennessee. Barring epic collapse this team is locked into the No. 1 seed of the tourney. But did UT show how to beat UK?

And can somebody please give some love to DeMarcus Cousins....oh, thanks Fanhouse.

4. NBA All-Star Game. Seeing 108,000-plus for a basketball game was pretty cool. (How many could actually see Dwight Howard?) But it was great because I saw this commercial and want to turn it into an full-extended single come playoff time.

"I knew I had to knock it down."

5. Cal State-Northridge vs. Cal State-Fullerton. Didn't see that coming, did you.

Well, this is a game worth watching the highlghts of. Unreal.

BONUS: Would be remiss not to give a well-deserved congrats to good friend David Hale, who covers the Georgia Bulldogs for the Macon Telegraph . He was given an award for Best New Media Interaction by a Beat Writer and its about time he got some recognition for what I consider to be one of the most well done blogs in the country and not just in college football. Which is pretty amazing considering the number of car bombs I have seen him consume just in my presence alone.

Even if you don't care about UGA, I recommend to any college football fan to be a daily reader.

Low-5

1. Big East Sunday. Seriously, what is going on out there? Syracuse falls at home to a Louisville team that got hammered by St. John's three days prior.

St. John's deals Notre Dame a crushing blow in South Bend in the "Save Norm Roberts' Job Tour."

Pandemonium at the RAC! Rutgers upsets Georgetown?

I honestly have no idea what to make of these results except to say this is why winning any road game in the Big East is reason to celebrate. And exactly why UC fans should be very nervous about Tuesday at USF, who will be playing for its NCAA life.

2. Daytona 500. Two things here: There is no crying in NASCAR. And great headline from the Sporting Blog.

3. Go Bananas. Shouldn't put the entire establishment under the bus, but have to say I saw the oddest comedy show there on Friday night.

Went to see Josh Sneed, who was hilarious, as was everyone else there. But with one guy in the front row who had the loudest, high pitch laugh I've ever heard and refused to laugh at the punchlines, but only the setups, making it impossible to even focus on the joke.

Add in a fight behind me aimed at a talking couple and other random, unexplained laughter from drunk folks, it was just odd. Enjoyable. Funny. Odd.

Lots of sports folks in the house, too. Josh is good friends with Mo Egger from 1530 who was there. Denny Jansen from Ch. 9 showed up and Chris Mack was tweeting about the Sunday show.

But, like I said, Josh was hillarious. You should follow him on Twitter, listen to his Podcats call Detention, or check out his T-Shirts here.

4. Tim O'Shea. He ruined so many Saturdays during my tenure at Ohio U. That's why this feels like a little bit of sweet redemption. Though, I feel for the fine co-eds at Bryant University.

5. DePaul. No. 1: Don't offer scholarships to 8th graders. No. 2: If you do, don't get rejected.
